“Meatballs” is a main course dish made from minced meat or fish mixed together with some cereals, fruits or vegetables. Meatballs usually have the size of a walnut or not a very big apple.
Each nation has a recipe how to make meatballs and the ingredients may vary according to tastes as well. We suggest that you should try to make meatballs in the oven following our instructions.
Ingredients:
- minced meat –1kg
- 1 egg
- rice – 125g
- 1 onion
- tomato sauce – 70-100g
- sour cream – 70-100g
- parsley to taste
- dill to taste
- ground black pepper to taste
- salt to taste
Instructions:
First of all rinse the rice until the water is clear and not cloudy. Then pour boiling water into it and leave for 15 minutes. Drain water from the rice and rinse it one more time. After that boil it in salted water until it is half-cooked.
While the rice is boiling take your time to peel the onion and chop it into cubes.
Put a frying pan on the fire, pour some vegetable oil on it and let the onion cubes fry till they become brown.
Add minced meat to the fried onion and fry it altogether for some more time. Then flavor it with parsley and dill, stir, cover and let it simmer a little bit.
After that take this mixture and put into a bowl, add an egg, salt and pepper to taste. Then put half-cooked rice into the bowl and mix it all thoroughly.
Roll the mixture into meatballs and put them on a baking pan which you should oil in advance.
Next thing you need to do is to mix tomato sauce with mayonnaise or sour cream and add some salt. Pour this sauce all over the meatballs.
Finally cover the baking pan with foil and put the meatballs in the oven (you should heat it up to 180’ beforehand) and leave it there for about 40 minutes.
Less than in an hour take the pan out of the oven and serve the meatballs with any side dish you like.
Enjoy your food!
One of the most popular side dishes to meatballs is rice. Here are some helpful tips on how to make it taste perfect:
- Let rice soak with water before you cook it – this way the grains won’t stick together when you boil them. Then drain the rice. If you are going to fry it let it drain longer – for about 10-15 minutes.
- To prevent rice from being too soft fry it all over in a small amount of dairy or vegetable oil before boiling, remember to stir it all the time so that the grains are not burnt. Fry the rice until some of the grains are transparent.
- If you are cooking rice in a steam cooker take 1 part of rice and 1¾ part of water. You will need less water if you let the rice soak with it beforehand.
- If you pour rice into boiling water stir it from time to time to prevent the grains from sticking together.
- And it is much better if you cook rice just before serving it – this way you are able to enjoy the taste of both the meatballs and the rice.
